Epic Progression
Progress through every WoW tier β by raid, or by the Lone Champion's Path
What is Epic Progression?
Epic Progression is Lordaeron's core gameplay system. Each character must defeat the final boss(es) of a raid tier to unlock the next one. Progression is per-character β not per-account or per-server. Each hero writes their own story, from the depths of Molten Core to the icy throne of the Lich King. The whole server runs on a WotLK 3.3.5a setup β spells, talents, quests β but content is unlocked progressively. Two roads lead through each expansion: the great raids, or the Lone Champion's Path for solo players and small groups.
Death Knights & Vanilla
Death Knights are available as usual from level 55, but they are also subject to Epic Progression. Their starting gear stats have been rebalanced so they are not overpowered during the Vanilla expansion.
Stay on Your Expansion
You are never forced to move on. You can choose not to turn in the final quest and stay on your current expansion as long as you want. This lets you create guilds, gather friends, and progress together at your own pace before moving to the next expansion.
The 3 Expansions

Vanilla
Begin your journey in classic Azeroth. Conquer Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Zul'Gurub, and the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Defeat the final bosses of each raid to advance through the tiers.
Tier 1 (Molten Core) β Tier 2 (BWL) β Transition (ZG) β Tier 2.5 (AQ40)
Quest NPCs: Varian Wrynn (Alliance) & Thrall (Horde)

The Burning Crusade
Step through the Dark Portal into Outland. From Karazhan to the Sunwell Plateau, face the most iconic bosses of the Burning Legion and Illidan's forces.
Tier 4 (Kara/Gruul/Mag) β Tier 5 (SSC/Eye) β Tier 6 (Hyjal/BT) β Transition (ZA) β Tier 6.5 (Sunwell)
Quest NPC: A'dal (Shattrath City)

Wrath of the Lich King
March to Northrend and face the greatest threat Azeroth has ever known. From the halls of Naxxramas to the pinnacle of Icecrown Citadel, your path leads to the Lich King himself.
Tier 7 (Naxx/Maly/Sarth) β Tier 8 (Ulduar) β Tier 9 (ToC/Ony) β Tier 10 (ICC) β Final (RS)
Quest NPC: Rhonin (Dalaran)
Two Roads to Glory
Every expansion can be conquered in two ways. Pick your road β and switch at every expansion boundary.
The Raid Path
The classic road: gather your guild and defeat the final bosses of each raid tier, from Molten Core to the Ruby Sanctum, in full 10/25/40-player battles.
The Lone Champion's Path
No raid roster? Walk the champion's road: solo or with a trusted few, clear heroic dungeon trials, fill farming commissions across the world and earn the emblems of each era. Same expansion unlocks, at your own pace.
The Archivists
A new order of vendors stands in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Shattrath and Dalaran: the Archivists sell raid-only profession recipes and crafting materials for gold and emblems, hand out farming commissions, and pay standing rates for the components you bring back. Both roads begin with them β every champion is sent to meet their era's Archivist.
β You can switch between the raid path and the Lone Champion's Path at every expansion boundary.
Cross-Expansion Restrictions
To ensure fair progression and prevent boosting, players from different expansions cannot interact in certain ways:
β Within the same expansion, all players can freely play together regardless of their current raid tier.
These restrictions exist to preserve the integrity of progression. They prevent boosting, ensure every player earns their progress, and maintain the challenge of each expansion.
How to Progress
To advance from one expansion to the next, you must complete a quest given by your faction's leader. After defeating the final boss of an expansion, return to the quest NPC to validate your kill and unlock the next expansion. In Vanilla, speak to Varian Wrynn (Alliance) or Thrall (Horde). In TBC, find A'dal in Shattrath. In WotLK, head to Rhonin in Dalaran. On the Lone Champion's Path, the same unlocks come from quest chains through heroic dungeons and world farming, guided by the Archivists.
